Who is The Attention Whore?

The Attention Whore is the girl you see online when you look up clubs in Korea online. She’s on a first name basis with the doormen and bartenders at the most exclusive clubs, and she’s out at least every Friday and Saturday night. She is easily confused with The Alcoholic or The Slut because of her visibility in drinking establishments as well as her usually provocative sense of style. The big difference between them is that The Attention Whore isn’t at the club to drink or to hook up (though it often happens) – her main goal is to see and be seen.

It is the attention of the masses that drives The Attention Whore. She will, consciously or subconsciously, always find herself in optimal settings for good pictures. She has an arsenal of poses at her disposal that she is always ready to whip out whenever a camera or phone appears. She’s also just as likely to be the one taking pictures, as long as she is in them.

The Attention Whore most likely considers herself a ‘social media influencer’ or ‘promoter’ or something like that. She may hold a secondary job such as a part-time model or a barista, but that is only to pay the bills until she hits it big. Her InstaFaceTweetPlus is her main focus, and she will take thousands of pictures for one good one. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, as her focus on physical appearances will also lead to her having a higher standard of beauty for herself. Being with her will certainly lend you a certain amount of social capital from the halo effect as well.

The Attention Whore is a consummate capitalist, but rather than money her capital is social in nature. She is constantly looking for ways to increase her value and social standing. This isn’t always in the ways that you would imagine, however. Many Attention Whores may not even party very much, but for our purposes, it’s easiest to classify them here. They are a wider group of women who are interested in attention, social status and validation, and the benefits that come with it. This can include such self-assigned titles as coffee connoisseur, foodie, art critic, and the aforementioned promoters. They all fall under the general umbrella of those who focus largely on social media presence and generally doing things in order to either garner attention or boost social credentials. Being seen doing the thing they claim to do is their top priority. After all, you just fake it ‘til you make it, right?

Keep in mind, this is not a judgment or indictment of their character, merely an explanation.

Attention Whores of all different kinds are very fun and engaging women in general. They are very outgoing and social by nature and are usually great fun to talk with. They generally have an above-average level of English and possibly other languages. These women are not usually mental or academic slouches, and they are also able to see through a lot of bullshit in others due to their unceasing exposure to fake people and situations. If you are interested in an Attention Whore or are looking to find one, you’d best bring your A-game. Pickup lines and practiced charm will not affect these girls, as they’ve already heard it all.

Keys to sealing the deal

The Attention Whore is part of the ‘beautiful people’ crowd and will likely be looking for the same in you to begin with. She will be most immediately attracted to good looks, hot fashion, and social status. If you already possess these three things, then you will have no trouble meeting and attracting an Attention Whore. If, however, you do not then do not fret!

The Attention Whore is generally attracted by one of two things: 1) something that increases her value or 2) something that brings new value. If you have the three things mentioned above, then being around or with you will increase her value, particularly in the eyes of others. If you do not but have interesting experiences, expertise in an interesting field other than hers, or are an excellent conversationalist, then she may very will find herself interested in you.

The Attention Whore is most likely an experienced girl, especially in the realm over which she claims dominion. If you find yourself talking to a club Attention Whore, she will not be impressed by name dropping or telling her about your access to different clubs and connections. Instead, consider talking to her about something interesting that you know about outside of her usual conversation topics.

Side note: I shouldn’t have to say this here, but for the love of God, do not try to talk to her about politics or video games. This applies to all women, but these naturally social creatures are likely the most turned off by this kind of banter. The only exception to this rule is if she brings it up first.

For me, The Attention Whore is often most fascinated by my experience in the music world. This is where I would steer the conversation in my case, but everyone will have a different play here. You need to lead the conversation to a topic where she is not an expert but is also intrigued.

The most important thing when talking with The Attention Whore and trying to move the interaction forward is to show your value in some way. Of course this is always important, but to a woman who particularly prioritizes social status and being recognized for accomplishments you have to step it up quite a bit. Being able to strum out Wonderwall won’t impress her; having a album or two will. Having a blog won’t even show up on her radar; being a published author will. The critical factor to keep in mind here is that she is (or at least fancies herself) an expert in her field. She expects the same of you.

It often takes years or decades to reach that level of accomplishment in any field. For this reason, The Attention Whore is not a very good target for younger guys if your game is weak. If you are young and not very accomplished yet, your best in with The Attention Whore is through looks, fashion, and social status. These can be accomplished with a good gym routine and strong social media presence. Even simply being at the right events can put you on The Attention Whore’s radar, which can blossom into much more. Your game will have to be tight though, as you’re playing on her field.

If you have a bit more experience and accomplishment under your belt, especially when you have pretty good game, The Attention Whore will be very interested in you. You still must maintain a modicum of good looks and fashion, as she can’t be seen in public with a fat slob, but it need not be your primary focus. The Attention Whore also is not generally as concerned with age, and may in fact view older men with a particular interest. I’ve seen absolutely gorgeous young Attention Whores dating men as old as their 40’s and even 50’s. As your age increases however, your accomplishments need to match it.

Game will be very important with The Attention Whore, no matter your plan of ingress. You will need the social skills and wherewithal to properly explain and spin your situation to make it interesting, engaging, and very positively interpreted.

Example: she asks you about your life and what you do for a living.

Not Player: “I’m recently divorced and got laid off from my job. I’m currently unemployed, looking for a new home, living off savings, and drowning in alimony payments. I’d really like to get laid, but it hasn’t happened in months.”

VS.

Player: “My life is on a major upswing right now. I recently left a toxic relationship that was holding me back. I had reached the pinnacle of my last field of business and am now looking for new investment opportunities to round out my portfolio. I’m considering real estate as my next field. Do you know much about the real estate market in Korea, by the way? With all my focus on new opportunities, I’m only looking for a woman who can keep up with high level discussions and bring valuable insight as well as companionship. They’re so hard to find!”

The situation is the same in both of those examples. The huge difference is the framing and the way it’s explained. The first guy sounds like a sad sack of shit that nobody wants to be around. The second guy sounds very interesting, engages the woman by asking her input on a fairly difficult subject, and puts her on the back foot by implying up front that he doesn’t expect to find a good match in most people he meets. He leaves the imagination of The Attention Whore to do the work for him, letting her try to prove herself good enough for this man of status.

The difference between having game and not is truly night and day.

Don’t slouch on your conversation and social skills, especially when it comes to dealing with an Attention Whore. They will smell bullshit and desperation from a mile away. You must have the right mindset and belief system in place to make it work.

Where to find her

The Attention Whore usually spends her time in the ritzier neighborhoods like Gangnam or Apgujeong, but you may also find her in the trendy cafes, art galleries, or resort-type places all around Korea. Night clubs are a good place to find the club Attention Whore, especially the pricier ones. If you’re looking in the clubs, check places like Octagon or Ellui in Seoul. You’ll find Attention Whores in Hongdae and Itaewon as well, but not as many and not as high-status. They’re a bit easier to start with than the Gangnam girls though, so don’t shy away from the trendier parts of Hongdae (Cocoon, NB) and Itaewon (Glam, B-One, Helios). [Note: these places are subject to change as the popularity of venues in Korea is constantly in flux.]

Another great place to find the Attention Whore is at special events. For example, every summer there’s a big pool party at the Hamilton Hotel in Itaewon. The pool is open all summer long, but this particular party is generally considered a must-go event for the younger socialites. There are also events all year long that you can find in different party groups on social media that tend to attract the same crowd of people. If you’re not sure where to start or what groups to follow, just go to any event you find online to gauge how good it is. If the talent level at the event seems high then befriend a few of the guys there, especially the organizers if you can. They are also very social and will be happy to tell you about all their events year-round.

Generally speaking, if you’re looking for The Attention Whore of any given field you can follow this same strategy. Social media is your friend, as it is hers. You’ll be able to find entire enclaves of self-selected Attention Whores at all of these events and practice with or start dating some of them.

If you’re especially interested in this type of girl but her field of interest isn’t important to you, feel free to dabble among different meetup and party groups. This way you are able to be recognized in each group while not being constantly available as well as avoiding pool contamination by over-gaming and particular group.

The final way to meet The Attention Whore is also probably the most obvious – through social media. Before you do this however, there is one major caveat.

Your social media account must be excellent.

This goes for whatever type of InstaFaceTweetPlus you are using. If it’s an account you mainly use for talking to friends and family or if you aren’t very active on it, then do not use this method. Your account needs to be at least as impressive as hers, if not more.

She gets dozens or even hundreds of guys trying desperately to slide into her DMs any given day. In order to use this method effectively, you must stand out in a huge way. Even then, there’s a very good chance that she doesn’t even notice your message because of the filters of whichever system plus the deluge of thirsty orbiters who are messaging her. You have got to be head and shoulders above the second-best option for this to work.

Of course, messaging on here is going to be just like Tinder in both content and purpose. You need to gain her interest immediately and get her engaged in the conversation as well as move the interaction out of the digital sphere as fast as possible.

Pros and Cons

Because The Attention Whore can come in such a wide variety, the depth of each pro and con will vary widely, but the overall list is still applicable to all these girls.

Pros: The Attention Whore is a very social creature by nature and will be excellent at conversation. She will be able to engage with you on a wide variety of topics and will always keep things fresh with her ideas and opinions. If you are an outgoing person yourself, this will be a fantastic blessing. There’s nothing worse than being a social butterfly in a relationship with a Shy Girl who you can barely talk to about anything.

On top of her talkative nature, The Attention Whore also has at least a passing familiarity with a plethora of subjects and areas of interest. Since she talks to so many different people at different events, she will certainly know at least something about almost any topic you engage her with. There will obviously be topics that she isn’t interested in and won’t engage with, but for anything that you can at least make seem interesting to her, she will be able to hold her own.

The Attention Whore is also a very experimental girl who is open to trying many new things. This applies to all sorts of stuff, both in the bedroom and out. If you’re into cars for example, going to see an F1 race together might appeal to her. Laser tag, while common in the states, is quite uncommon here and would be a fun new experience for her. Generally, she will appreciate anything that gives her a new experience if it also affords her good photo opportunities. Dressed in F1 gear from head to toe like a racing model or wearing a laser tag vest with her gun would be the applicable examples given above. As for in-bedroom experimentation, I’ll leave that to your imagination and desires.

One truly great positive about The Attention Whore is her beauty. Almost without fail, The Attention Whore has built her following around the fact that she is a very good-looking girl. Because it’s her job to look great all the time, you will always have a wonderful piece of arm candy to grace your adventures together.

The Attention Whore will be a very fun and engaging girl to spend time with, whether it’s a short fling or a long-term relationship. The important thing to remember though is that you are always second place to her self-promotion, social media fans, and army of orbiters.

This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, depending on her field of work, but is also the reason that this type of girl varies more than any other in their LTR desirability. If she is a club promoter and always out at the different club events drinking with bartenders and random guys, she’s most likely low desirability for an LTR. If, on the other hand, she does her work promoting new cafes or other alcohol-free venues, then her curious and entertaining personality could (potentially) make for a very high desirability.

This leads us directly into the cons of The Attention Whore.

Cons: If you are the type of person who likes to be the main focus of your girlfriend / wife, then this girl will drive you absolutely crazy. You will very rarely be her main focus, and almost never be the sole focus of her attention. This is largely because she is constantly in search of new photo opportunities or events and places to promote. To spend any time with an Attention Whore longer than one night, you need to be okay with taking a back seat to her social media fans.

On top of that, she will often be out socializing and meeting other guys without you at her various events. Depending on the type of promotions she does, there is also a realistic possibility that they have a no boyfriend rule at the events. If you’re too jealous of a guy for this, you should probably avoid The Attention Whore. Even if you’re not a very jealous person, you should still keep an eye on the places she goes, people she meets, and general time frames of the events. This doesn’t mean you need to lock her down with a curfew, but also be aware enough that if she comes home 3 hours late, then she may have spent some extracurricular time with Chad after the event.

You may think that this negative would wane with age, as does most things regarding women and their beauty. You would also be very wrong. The thirst of a beta knows no age limit.

Another con that you will find with The Attention Whore is that often you end up getting the no-makeup version at home or on casual dates. If you are largely into her for her looks, you may be disappointed when things naturally take a turn toward the comfortable and familiar. You can try to stop this slide early, but you will only delay the inevitable. It is simply a matter of time before she stops putting on makeup Sunday morning after a Saturday night romp, and soon that will slide into Sweatpants Sundays. I recognize that this isn’t necessarily a negative to everyone, however it would be remiss of me to not mention it for those who find it important.

Depending on your personality type, you may also find spending a lot of time with The Attention Whore to be exhausting. You will need to be proactive and creative throughout your time with her, regardless of the length of the relationship. This can mean coming up with fun new date ideas, exciting places to have excursions, or even new topics of conversation. The danger with these types of girls is that they are constantly being exposed to the new and interesting, so you can’t ever let your relationship with them stagnate or get stale. It can be quite a challenge to keep her interest and attention over a long period of time, and if you fail it will likely result in her seeking it out elsewhere.
